Honour for firefighters

EIGHT firefighters who have risked their lives to provide fire cover for the military in Kosovo, Bosnia and Iraq have been honoured at an award ceremony.

The team from the Defence Fire Risk Management Organisation (DFRMO), who have served 160 years between them, were presented with medals for long service and good conduct.

The firefighters honoured were John Peters, Paul Green, Kevin Down, Barry Lewis, Andy Todd, Gary Davis, Harry Smith and Kevin Billinge.

The presentation was held at the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop, with the medals presented by the Defence’s chief fire officer, Noel Roberts.

He said: “I praise the dedication to duty and hard work of the eight firefighters, each of whom have completed over twenty years service.

“In doing so I am mindful of the considerable support given to them by their families to achieve this milestone.”

DFRMO, formerly known as the Defence Fire Service, is one of the largest fire and rescue services in the country, supporting the defence community both at the home bases and on operations.
