Spanish experience for Manor Fields pupils

CHILDREN from Manor Fields Primary School in Salisbury have enjoyed an exchange visit to their partner school in Tenerife.

Ten Year 6 children visited CEIP Teobaldo Power School in Agua Dulce as part of a British Council-funded project called Understanding Our Environment.

The children have been exchanging emails with the school over the last five years to learn about cultural difference and to practice their Spanish.

During the week-long trip, children took part in lessons and sports activities and sampled Spanish cuisine.

They studied the local environment during visits up Mount Teide and went underwater on a submarine voyage.

Children from Manor Fields are already preparing activities to welcome their Spanish friends when they pay a return visit to Salisbury in March.

Audrey Capon, modern foreign language coordinator at Manor Fields, said: “The children attracted much positive attention during the visit as the area we stayed in was not in a tourist area but in an agricultural region. The people of the town were extremely welcoming and keen to share their time with us all.

“The children have returned to lessons this week, ready to recount their experience with their classmates and the wider school community.”
