Fun-filled day for gifted pupils
3:30pm Tuesday 7th February 2012

YOUNGSTERS from primary schools around Salisbury enjoyed a fun-filled day learning about Romans and Celtics.
A history day was held at Whiteparish All Saints Primary School last Monday for children from a cluster of schools including Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls, Alderbury and West Grimstead, Longford, New Forest, Coombe Bissett and Downton.
Twenty-eight Year 5 and 6 children took part from the schools’ able and interested programme.
Gaius Suetonius, from Legion 14, arrived at the school with a range of Roman and Celtic artefacts and costumes.
In the afternoon, Ros Liddington from Wilton House, brought in Roman poetry and artefacts for the children to learn about.
Headteacher Kate Heathcote said: “The children all said what great fun they had and how they really enjoyed learning about something new. They all seem to like making new friends and that’s the idea; you may only get one or two children in a class passionate about history but here they’re working with children from other schools.”
