EXCITEMENT is building in Alderholt as a four-day music and comedy festival draws closer.

reCreate, which begins on April 4 at the recreation ground, will feature Take That tribute band Fake That and funny man Andy Kind, who has supported the likes of comedians Tim Vine and Milton Jones.

There will also be an open microphone night and a giant Zumba event will be held in the marquee on the recreation ground.

Rev Pip Martin of St James’ Church announced the forthcoming church festival on Tuesday and told the Journal that some great acts had been booked.

Rev Martin said: “We are very excited about this festival, which is the first of its kind in the village. I am told that Fake That is one of the best tribute bands in the country.

“The festival is part of our annual Easter celebrations and I am hoping that on Easter Sunday everyone comes to our special church service.”

Young people in the village are fast becoming a part of the fabric of church life, with youth leaders organising a host of activities and community events designed especially for youngsters.

A group of 15 teenagers have returned from a weekend stay at Westbrook House on the Isle of Wight and several craft events were held during half term ahead of the Easter workshops, which are big business in the village.

Rev Martin added: “Our Easter workshops are becoming bigger and bigger. Last year we had more than 100 youngsters attending them, which is why we are having a marquee to hold them this year.

“Our trip to the island is the third one we have organised. I think it is important to take a youth group away each year. It fosters a sense of belonging and helps young people to grow in confidence and it teaches real Christianity, the ability to all get along.”
